ADULT CHORALE

The Queen of Peace Adult Chorale is the most active choral ensemble at our parish.  Anyone from high school age may join, and no music reading ability is necessary.  The Adult Chorale sings choral literature of many different types: from Renaissance polyphony to classical masterworks to contemporary selections. The repertoire and rehearsal styles are meant to teach singers techniques of good vocal production, music reading, and ensemble singing.  However, the group is primarily a liturgical ministry, supporting our congregation in song and presenting to them a wide variety of sacred music styles through which to pray.

The Adult Chorale musically enhances one liturgy each weekend from September through Pentecost, most often at the 9:30am Sunday Mass.  They also sing at sacramental liturgies and other special events throughout the year.  In addition, the Chorale presents a program of Christmas music each January at the Epiphany Choral Concert.

Weekly rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm in the church.

CHAMBER CHOIR

The Queen of Peace Chamber Choir is a select ensemble that serves to perform and promote concert-level sacred music in our parish and the surrounding community.  Membership is open to any singer in the Michiana region, and can be either by invitation or audition.  Prior vocal experience and an ability to read music are desired

The ensemble’s repertoire can extend from chant to choral masterworks or from cantatas to liturgical motets, depending on the situation.  The Chamber Choir performs in at least one concert setting each year, and may also sing for special liturgies at Queen of Peace.

Rehearsals are scheduled on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm, usually every other week starting a few months before each performance.  Please contact Joseph Ciskanik for more information about the Chamber Choir.

ST. CECILIA CHOIR

The Queen of Peace St. Cecilia Choir is open to all 5th-8th grade students at Queen of Peace Catholic School.  Members of the choir will learn the basics of good vocal production, music reading, and ensemble singing in an extension of their classroom music curriculum.  The goal of the St. Cecilia Choir is to support our school and parish assemblies in liturgical song and to perform the finest literature for young Catholic singers.

The St. Cecilia Choir leads the school in song at many weekly School Masses, inspiring all students to pray twice through their singing.  They are also scheduled to sing at the 9:30am Children’s Mass on the third Sunday of every other month during the school year.

Members of the St. Cecilia Choir may be invited to participate in our annual diocesan Pueri Cantores festival or All-Schools Mass.  Select singers may be selected to serve as cantors at school or weekend Masses.

Rehearsals are held on most Thursdays after school from 3:00-4:30pm

YOUTH CHOIR

The Queen of Peace Youth Choir is open to all 2nd-4th grade students at Queen of Peace Catholic School.  Members of the choir will learn the fundamentals of singing together as an extension of their classroom music curriculum.  The goal of the Youth Choir is to get young singers excited about music and prepare them for lifelong involvement in choral ensembles.

The Youth Choir leads the school in song at one weekly school Mass each month.  They are also scheduled to sing at the 9:30am Children’s Mass on the third Sunday of every other month during the school year.

Rehearsals are held one Thursday afternoon each month after school from 3-4pm.

SEASONAL CHOIRS

Throughout the year, there are a number of special events where a choir may be called upon.  Queen of Peace parishioners have the opportunity to join with the Adult Chorale or school choirs for these special occasions.  Seasonal choirs have a much more limited rehearsal commitment than the Adult Chorale, St. Cecilia Choir or Youth Choir.

Examples of special events include the Peacefest outdoor Mass, Christmas Eve service, celebrations of the Liturgy of the Hours, or Secular Franciscan Profession Masses at St. Francis Convent, Mishawaka.  Rehearsal details will be announced in advance of the event, and are open to all parishioners.

PARISH CANTOR MINISTRY

Cantors are not “soloists” at Mass.  They are instead the most visible leaders of music at parish liturgies.  Cantors lead congregational hymns and songs, sing in dialogue with the assembly or presider, and proclaim the Responsorial Psalm and verse of the Gospel Acclamation.  Parish cantors should be of high school age or older and possess clear, pleasant, and confident singing voices.  One needs not be a member of a parish choir to be a cantor!

Each cantor is scheduled for one weekend Mass approximately every three weeks, and they may have the opportunity to lead song at weddings and funerals.

Cantors are expected to arrange a rehearsal with Joseph the week before their scheduled Mass, as well as rehearse for thirty minutes before Mass begins.

SCHOOL CANTOR MINISTRY

Queen of Peace School cantors are chosen by audition from the St. Cecilia Choir.  They are responsible for announcing hymns at Mass and proclaiming the Responsorial Psalm and verse to the Gospel Acclamation.  Depending on the number of cantors selected, they will likely minster approximately once a month.

When scheduled, school cantors rehearse with Mr. Ciskanik during their recess period.

INSTRUMENTALISTS

Our weekend liturgies are regularly enhanced with the addition of solo instruments or quartets.  Musicians from Queen of Peace Parish, Queen of Peace School, or the Michiana community are encouraged to contact Joseph Ciskanik for a meeting and/or audition.  Whether a professional, amateur or beginner, instrumentalists at all ability levels are encouraged to join this ministry!
